Renée Sanjuán is an Assistant Professor of American Politics at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, where she teaches Introduction to American Politics, Urban Politics, Political Participation, Critical Thought, and Advanced Critical Thought in the Department of Social Sciences. Renée’s work focuses on civic engagement, education policy, experiential learning practices, and fostering difficult conversations in and out of the classroom. As the Executive Secretary of the West Point Graduate Scholarship Program, she helps to prepare students to apply for international scholarships. Renée founded and manages the Civic Engagement Initiative, which provides civic-minded workshops to inner city youth. An Army Logistics officer, Renée has deployed to Djibouti, Kenya, Afghanistan and Iraq, where she has led organizations, provided logistics support to thousands of soldiers, managed international contracts, and worked with multinational partnerships. She is a 2016 Presidential Leadership Scholar and a board associate for the NJ Scholarship Fund for Inner City Children. Renée has an MPA in US Urban and Social Policy from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, an MA in Security Studies from Kansas State University, and a BS in American Politics and Spanish from West Point.
